Russia Labels ACF as Terrorist Organization
Previously, Russian authorities had prohibited multiple groups established by Navalny’s team.
Many of the team’s publicly visible members have since fled Russia and now live abroad.
On Thursday, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office stated that the US-registered advocacy organization, more commonly known in Russia as FBK, engaged in activities intended to promote, justify, and support terrorism.
The ACF has openly backed Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia and has called on Western nations to impose additional sanctions on Moscow.
The foundation has rejected any allegations of wrongdoing, describing the legal actions against them as politically driven. “We are not terrorists, and everyone knows that,” the group asserted in a Telegram statement.
Earlier this year, Russian courts sentenced Leonid Volkov, a close associate of Navalny, in absentia to 18 years in prison on charges of extremism, and issued an arrest warrant for Navalny’s wife, Yulia Navalnaya, who is living abroad.
Navalny passed away in February 2024 while serving a lengthy prison term for extremism.
His family and supporters accused the Kremlin of being responsible for his death and claimed that Russian authorities attempted to poison him in 2020.
The Kremlin has denied any involvement, and prison officials stated that Navalny died of natural causes.
