Putin states no written draft for potential peace agreement on Ukraine

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that there is currently no written draft for a potential peace agreement on Ukraine, explaining that Washington has so far provided only a general list of topics for discussion. Still, he noted that Russia is prepared to engage with the framework proposed by the United States, according to reports.

Speaking at a press conference in Bishkek during a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, he addressed a question about the U.S. initiative. Putin clarified that what has been presented is not an actual document but rather a collection of points put forward for negotiation.

“In principle, we agree that this can become the basis of future agreements, but it would be impolite of me to talk about any final drafts now, since there are none,” the president pointed out.

According to his remarks, while certain aspects reflect Moscow’s position, a number of other “fundamental” matters still need in-depth discussion. “We need to put everything in diplomatic language,” he stated.

Putin also revealed that a U.S. delegation is scheduled to arrive in Moscow early next week for further talks on the proposal. He declined to comment on who would represent Washington, saying that the choice rests with U.S. President Donald Trump.

On the Russian side, diplomats from the foreign ministry will take part, alongside presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, who previously headed negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul. Another senior aide, Yury Ushakov—described in reports as a central figure in ongoing contacts between Moscow and Washington—is also expected to join the discussions.
