Russia Comments on US National Security Strategy Shift
The ministry highlighted what it described as a move away from former hegemonic commitments and an indication of willingness for continued collaborative efforts in resolving the war in Ukraine.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova observed that the new strategy sharply diverges from the 2022 edition, now recognizing that “American elites previously made grave miscalculations” by relying on a flawed “globalist model,” according to a state-run news agency.
Zakharova emphasized that while it remains uncertain how fully the administration of President Donald Trump will implement these changes, “the very recognition of the bankruptcy of the globalist model is telling.”
She noted that the strategy “for the first time officially questions” what Moscow characterizes as NATO’s “aggressive expansionist dynamics.”
Additionally, Zakharova pointed out that Russia is discussed within the broader framework of European security, without suggestions for new economic sanctions or containment measures.
However, she remarked that references to achieving US “energy dominance” by curbing adversaries’ influence reveal that Washington still intends to “push Russia out of global energy markets.”
Regarding Ukraine, Zakharova stated that the revised strategy contains “provisions that lay the foundation for continuing our joint constructive efforts with the Americans to find ways to achieve a peaceful resolution.”
