Iranian FM Highlights Strong Cooperation with Russia, China
Describing both nations as “strategic partners,” Araghchi made the remarks during an interview in response to questions about reports suggesting that Moscow and Beijing could provide intelligence or military support to Iran for operations targeting American sites in the region.
“Russia and China are our strategic partners, and we have had close cooperation in the past, which is still continuous, and that includes military cooperation as well,” he said. The minister did not provide further specifics but emphasized that Iran has “good cooperation" with the two countries “politically, economically, even militarily.”
Araghchi also addressed recent US strikes, stating that “last night, they (the US) attacked Kharg Island and Abu Musa Island, and they have done it from the soil of our neighbors.” He added, “These last night attacks were tracked by our forces, and now it is clear that they were fired from the UAE. This is unacceptable.”
Earlier, Donald Trump, the US president, said that American forces destroyed all military targets on Kharg Island and warned of potential strikes on the island’s oil infrastructure if Iran continued to obstruct shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Kharg Island is Iran’s primary oil export hub, handling approximately 90–95% of the country’s crude shipments—around 1.7 million barrels per day last year—and serves as a critical component of the national energy system and a major source of government revenue.
